The Pro-Democracy Information Lab is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting democratic values through resonant journalism delivered in innovative ways.
We do this by training the 5,000 local journalists in our growing network to produce pro-democracy news, (See our weekly newsletter.) and by piloting ground-breaking strategies for reaching news resistant Americans.

The Pro-Democracy Information Lab is an off-shoot of its founder Kyle Spencer’s more than 30 years of daily reporting and her work researching her book Raising Them Right (Harper Collins, 2022) which focuses on the rapid spread of misinformation and anti-democratic ideas that so threaten our civic life.
Spencer is a lover of local news and spent the early part of her career at The Philadelphia Inquirer and The News and Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina. She spent more than ten years as a contributor to The New York Times, writing about national issues from a local lens.
